Destination Sydney
In a unique collaboration, this summer three major Sydney independent galleries, Manly Art Gallery, Mosman Art Gallery and the National Trust’s S.H. Ervin Gallery present a united exhibition of leading Australian artists who have been shaped by, and shape our notion of Sydney.
Curated by Lou Klepac, this exhibition celebrates Sydney’s legacy as a point of creative convergence and interaction and is laid out across the three venues, showcasing iconic artworks by nine major Australian artists.
Rather than an overly curated show with a plethora of artists, the three galleries present focussed exhibitions with a rich selection of works by each of the artists who have added to the vibrant cultural image and spirit of Sydney.
At Mosman Gallery artists on show include Kevin Connor, Peter Kingston and John Olsen; Manly Art Gallery and Museum artists will include Elisabeth Cummings, Lloyd Rees and Brett Whitely; and S.H. Ervin Gallery will show Cressida Campbell, Grace Cossington Smith and Margaret Preston.
Including artists who were born in Sydney, or artists who have travelled to Sydney, each artist is linked by Sydney and the harbour as central themes in their artistic practices.
Be prepared to be immersed in the landscape of Sydney and its beautiful harbour, as you traverse from one gallery to the next.
