Ceramic artists rally around Nepal
Starting this Friday 15 May, ceramicists rally for Nepal with an online auction of more than 80 donated artworks going under the hammer.
Aiming to raise funds for the devastated earthquake victims, Melbourne artist Vipoo Srivlasa initiated the online project. “After seeing the terrible footage, I felt that I had to do something. I realised that together with my colleagues we could auction our work to make a substantial contribution to the relief effort,” he said.
The response from the world’s ceramics community has been overwhelming, with pieces donated by both emerging and well-known artists. More than 30 highly collectable artists include Australia’s Pippin Drysdale and Simone Fraser, and Belgium’s Ann Van Hoey.
Since the earthquake on April 25, the death toll has reached more than 7,500, foreign aid by the artists will play a critical role in providing emergency shelter, medical supplies, sanitation, safe drinking water and rebuilding the districts hardest hit.
Demonstrating the ability of art to create impressive social change, Srivilasa is already highly regarded raising over $20,000 in the wake of the Tropical Cyclone Yasi for the Queensland Appeal in 2011.
The ‘Clay for Nepal’ artworks will go to auction from 6am AEST Friday 15 May to 9pm Sunday 17 May. The site will also have an online store with more affordable pieces available. All proceeds from art sales will go to OXFAM Australia: Nepal Earthquake Relief Appeal.
See the details below for this great opportunity to engage with prominent ceramicists, and support the survivors in Nepal.
