Sydney Contemporary Exhibitors Announced

Announced this morning, the new contemporary art fair which will be hitting Carriageworks in September this year will include an outstanding list of more than 70 galleries from Australia and overseas, with respected names from 12 countries and 4 continents coming together in Sydney for the first time.

Galleries we will be seeing from Asia include: 10 Chancery Lane (Hong Kong); China Art Projects (China); The Drawing Room (The Philippines); Nature Morte (India & Berlin); Umahseni (Indonesia); Edouard Malingue Gallery (Hong Kong); and COHJU contemporary art (Japan).

Paragon and Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery will be at the fair from London, and we’ll also be lucky enough to see work from Sundaram Tagore Gallery, (New York, Singapore, Hong Kong), de Sarthe Gallery (Beijing, Hong Kong and New York) and Everard Read from Johannesburg.

From New Zealand, galleries include Michael Lett, Gow Langsford Gallery, Starkwhite, Bath Street Gallery and Robert Heald (all from Auckland), and Toi o Tahuna Gallery from Queenstown.

The fair will also feature established and emerging galleries from across Australia, including: Anna Schwartz Gallery (Sydney & Melbourne); Mossenson Galleries (Melbourne & Perth); Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery (Sydney); MCLEMOI GALLERY (Sydney); The Commercial (Sydney); Sullivan + Strumpf Fine Art (Sydney); Jan Murphy Gallery (Brisbane); Sutton Gallery (Melbourne); Lesley Kehoe Galleries (Melbourne); Daine Singer (Melbourne); Niagara Galleries (Melbourne); and Gallerysmith (Melbourne).

As we saw at Melbourne Art Fair, the local emerging collectives and artist-run-iniatives (ARIs) are always a dynamic and complementry addition to the more established galleries, showcasing emerging artists and more experimental work, so it will be exciting to see Alaska Projects, Chalkhorse, and Firstdraft (all from Sydney), and Utopian Slumps and KALIMANRAWLINS (from Melbourne).

And this is just the first announcement!

Director of Sydney Contemporary, Barry Keldoulis said of the line-up so far: “With more than three months before opening, we are delighted to have so many galleries confirmed already and expect to add to this further before our launch. Our gallery list has been rigorously vetted by Sydney Contemporary’s vetting committee to ensure a high level of curatorial content at the Fair.

We believe the mix of the galleries presenting at the inaugural Sydney Contemporary offers an interesting cross-­section of what is happening in contemporary art today. Our visitors from Sydney and those who travel to attend the fair will be sure to experience both the work of well-­known artists whilst also discovering some fresh works both from Australia and around the world. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic event and will only get stronger as we draw closer to the launch in September.”
