Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award 2015
Once again the eighth Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award returns this year celebrating innovation and excellence in the field of Art On Paper.
Opening this Friday 29 May, three prizes will be awarded including the major prize of $15,000, the $5000 Young and Emerging Artists Award, and the People’s Choice Award of $1000.
The exhibition showcases the diverse range of talents within the paper media including pencil drawings, charcoal, ink, oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolour, three dimensional works, photography, print making, video and paper animation.
A classic medium that all artists are familiar with, it comes with no surprise the popularity of the prize with over 1500 local, state and national entries received from over 760 artists. The largest number of entries the exhibition has seen, from this a total of 93 artists have been selected for the exhibition.
The award selection panellists include Greg Hodge (winner of the 2013 Art on Paper Emerging Art Award), Tania Creighton, Curator of the UTS Gallery and Tesha Mallott, Gallery Manager of Firstdraft. The selected entries will be judged by leading local artists George Gittoes, Alexander McKenzie and Ildiko Kovacs.
Finalists this year consist of both emerging and established artists including Lousia Chircop, Idris Murphy, Jennifer Keeler-Milne, Sally Smart, Paul Snell and many others who are listed here.
Due to the tremendous response of received entries, the exhibition has expanded with selected artworks installed in both the regional and community galleries at Hazelhurst.
Take on the challenge to see all the selected works, you can nominate your favourite art work in the People’s Choice Award. Each nomination goes into the draw to win a $100 gift voucher from Hazelhurst. Entries close 17 July 2015.
