Issue 44
The response to Artist Profile over time has shown that getting behind artists and their art matters to you as it does to us. To ensure we’re evolving with you and the ever changing artistic landscape of Australasia, the magazine has embarked on some exciting changes.
After ten years with nextmedia, Artist Profile has changed hands. John Feitelson and I have bought the magazine. A migrant to Australia and a property identity with interest in the creative arts, John brings a new entrepreneurial spirit to the project. As the publisher of Artist Profile, John is committed with me to expanding its DNA.
Joining the editorial team as our principal writer is prominent art critic John McDonald. John will develop our critical writing on local and international exhibitions and film made by or about Australasian visual artists. In this issue John has provided critical essays on the 2018 Archibald Prize and Signature Art Prize exhibitions, and Soda_Jerk’s film TERROR NULLIUS.
This issue includes an extra sixteen pages, enabling more stories, photographs and articles on Australasian artists, plus a commissioned cartoon by David Rowe.
Anna Johnson’s cover story on Fiona Hall provides fascinating insights into the beliefs and ideas behind Hall’s past work and in her new installation for Sydney’s Hyde Park, which will pay tribute to the soldiers of NSW who served in the First World War.
As we grow, we will ensure that Artist Profile continues to be a magazine where artists and contributors – both new and established – have the exposure they deserve.
We have increased distribution outlets throughout Australia to provide more opportunities for advertisers, subscribers and vendors to support a truly independent arts magazine. We hope you enjoy the first expanded issue of Artist Profile.
