Gregory Crewdson Lecture

Offering a surreal view of middle America, Gregory Crewdson’s photographs are dramatically stylized scenes that some have compared to the melancholic paintings of Edward Hopper and the gothic films of David Lynch.

Crewdson is currently in Australia for the launch of a biographical feature film and for the exhibition ‘Gregory Crewdson: In a Lonely Place’ at the Centre for Contemporary Photography – part of the Melbourne Festival – before it tours to Brisbane’s Institute of Modern Art (IMA) in 2013.

As a teaser for Brisbane locals, Crewdson will present a lecture at the Gallery of Modern Art this weekend about his work and practice. His lecture will be followed by the Australian première of Ben Shapiro’s feature film Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters.

Artist Profile met with Crewdson on a prior visit to Australia, a video of the interview was published on this website.

Crewdson’s work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. He is represented by Gagosian Gallery, New York, and White Cube, London.
