Artist Talk: Naomi Hobson and Dr Shireen Morris

26 May, 2023, Arthouse Gallery, Sydney

At Arthouse Gallery in Sydney, Naomi Hobson and Dr Shireen Morris shared their stories and discussed the concept of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voice to Parliament.

Naomi Hobson is an artist from Coen, a small town built on the Country of the Kaantiu peoples, her maternal line; not far from this is the Saltwater Country of the Umpila people, her paternal line. Naomi’s works are painted with a deep connection to her Country, from the rainforests to the grasslands.
Dr Shireen Morris is a constitutional lawyer and the director of Macquarie University’s’ Radical Centre Reform Lab. She worked closely with Noel Pearson since 2014 to help devise and advocate the concept of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.

“I talk to my country, and every day it reveals something back. Through signs and sounds in nature, I am explaining these feelings. Through these series of paintings, the Language of the Land, I can explain”- Naomi Hobson
